“Capelan”

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre

This cuvée is characterized by a very silky and firm structure at the same time. The attack is generous, very centered in its mineral power, but fresh and Burgundian, nothing suggests that the juice is around 15% Vol.

Beautiful red color with intense madness reflections, the universe of this wine releases a very melted black liquorice, red and black fruits in slight overripe interspersed with olives, cocoa and truffles. Very fresh in its entirety despite a hyper concentration, the whole appears of a very feminine harmony. The finals are of great length and impressive fluidity. A Châteauneuf du Pape from the most beautiful complex plots, delicious, precise, balanced and distinguished.

97 Points Robert Parker:

Even better than the Vendange cuvee, and I suspect one of the wines of the vintage, Stephane’s 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Côtes Capelan is the top wine of the estate and is made from 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, raised 70% in concrete and 30% in barrels. There’s under 500 cases of this beauty and it reveals a deep purple color as well as decadent notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, crushed rocks and melted licorice. Full-bodied, thick, unctuous and massively concentrated, with ripe tannin and a killer finish, don’t miss it!

95 Points Decanter:

Fermented in concrete, then matured in a combination of concrete and old barriques. It has a deeply vinous nose with a slight recollection of antique shops, before young primary berry fruit surges to the fore. This is very full-bodied and rich, deeply tannic but ripe. Like his Vendange, this wine gives the impression that it made itself with no external force. It's a wine that you dive into - pure pleasure. 2020 - 2032 Decanter Magazine
